Lineup changes possible for Hogs vs. TCU

Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman talks to his players between free throws during the second half of the Razorbacks' 72-68 win over Valparaiso's on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock.

FAYETTEVILLE — With the exception of the Northern Kentucky game on Nov. 30, Arkansas coach Eric Musselman has floored the same starting lineup in each game this season.

Isaiah Joe, Mason Jones, Jimmy Whitt, Desi Sills and Adrio Bailey have started 11 consecutive games since then, but change may be in order Saturday when the Razorbacks host TCU in the Big 12/SEC Challenge at 3 p.m.

When asked about a potential shakeup, Musselman joked that he plans to consult his dog, Swish, and will make a determination after their Saturday morning walk.

"I think certainly there’s a thought process," he added. "I’ll pretty much take his lead for what he says. In all seriousness, yes. They might have to do some new graphics for the starting five."

Among the leading candidates to earn a starting nod is sophomore Reggie Chaney, who is averaging 8.6 points on 12 of 13 from the floor in the Razorbacks' last three games. He is shooting 93 percent in conference play, his lone miss coming Wednesday at Mississippi State.

Dating back to Arkansas' win at Indiana on Dec. 29, Chaney has made 16 of 18 attempts - all in the lane. And since his stint in Musselman's doghouse following poor performances against Texas A&M and LSU, which included a costly technical against the Tigers, the Razorbacks have outscored Vanderbilt, Kentucky and the Bulldogs by 28 points with him on the floor.

Arkansas is minus-22 in that span when he sits.

"Reggie’s done a great job in our dunker spot, hanging around the baseline and kind of ghosting himself," Musselman said Friday. "Then (he is) finding open gaps and catching the ball and finishing in traffic.

"SEC length has not bothered Reggie around the rim finishing."

Junior guard Jalen Harris is another option. While Harris is only 2 of 13 from 3-point range since Dec. 14, he is in the midst of an impressive stretch taking care of the basketball, which is one reason Arkansas is top 30 nationally and No. 1 in the SEC in offensive turnover rate, according to KenPom.

Harris has committed just two turnovers - both against Kentucky - through six conference games (132 minutes). Musselman has noted in the past that the speedy guard changes the pace of the Razorbacks' offense and opens up easy scoring opportunities for teammates when on the floor.

Nothing at this point, though, is definitive, Musselman said.

"We’ll let marketing people know to have a few different graphics ready if we’re going to use our social media and put a starting five out there," he added. "I know that’s really important that thing gets out there before tipoff."
