JT Baker, who owns the Perfect Timing facility in Springdale and who along with Zac Bottoms put together the college league, said he could not be more pleased with the way the league has brought baseball back amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re out here and we’re playing ball,” Baker said. “Everyone we’ve talked to seems to be enjoying it and the quality of play has been outstanding.”

Baker’s PT franchise has offered a college league for the past several seasons, but this year’s league took a huge step up with the addition of about 10 University of Arkansas players who had remained in the area after their season was shut down in mid-March.

“That has obviously increased the level from good to great,” Baker said. “We were able to have this for those players when they did not have many other options.”

Moving forward, Baker is hopeful that the league will continue to grow and include even more Division I players.

With possible changes to college’s baseball’s schedule, that could be to the PT league’s benefit considering they can offer a shorter season with about the same number of games with many fields in Northwest Arkansas.

Benfield also plays in the outfield on the nights he does not catch.

White goes batty

PT White brought the big sticks Monday night in a 10-4 win against PT Grey.

Arkansas freshman Robert Moore, a switch-hitter, crushed a two-run home run to left from the right side to give his team the early lead.

Former Springdale Har-Ber standout Blaze Brothers also went deep, cracking a home run to back his team’s effort.
