Casey Opitz undrafted

Opitz was a top 100 prospect in this year's draft and was expected to turn pro. Now it appears he will return to the Razorbacks' baseball team in 2021.

Here is more on Opitz going undrafted.

The Razorbacks will also retain most of their prized signing class, notably right-handed pitchers Nate Wohlgemuth and Jaxon Wiggins from Oklahoma, left-handed pitcher Nick Griffin of Monticello and infielders Cayden Wallace of Greenbrier and Michael Brooks of Wellington, Fla.

Casey Martin to Phillies

Martin, who was projected as a first rounder at one point in his career, was Baseball America's best prospect remaining when the Phillies pulled the trigger. The slot value for this pick is $689,300.

Masyn Winn, Tink Hence to Cardinals

Winn, who is from the Houston suburb of Kingwood, is the first Arkansas signee off the board. Winn was considered one of the most likely Razorback signees to be drafted this year. The slot value for that pick is $1.34 million.

Hence, from Watson Chapel in Pine Bluff, was expected to be drafted, too. He has a big arm with a smooth delivery. The slot value for that pick is $1.08 million.

David Calabrese to Angels

Calabrese is a Canadian outfielder and was considered one of the Razorbacks' best position players in this class. The slot value for his spot is $744,200.

Notable

• Tennessee outfielder Alerick Soularie was drafted 59th overall by the Minnesota Twins. Soularie signed with Arkansas, but went to Tennessee after his lead recruiter Tony Vitello was hired as the Vols' head coach.

• Texas Tech right-handed pitcher Bryce Bonnin was drafted 84th overall by the Cincinnati Reds. Bonnin began his career at Arkansas and transferred to Texas Tech following the 2018 season.

Earlier

Heston Kjerstad was the only player affiliated with Arkansas to be selected on the draft's first day, which included 37 picks.

More players with Arkansas ties are expected to be picked in today's second through fifth rounds. Casey Martin and Casey Opitz are expected to be selected at some point, and signees Masyn Winn, Markevian "Tink" Hence and David Calabrese are thought to be the most likely to be selected among those committed to the Razorbacks.

Arkansas assistant coach Nate Thompson said earlier this week he wouldn't be surprised to see some surprise picks in the fourth and fifth rounds, similar to the 11th and 12th rounds in other years. Any player selected this year is expected to sign professionally.
