Reggie Chaney enters NCAA transfer portal

Arkansas forward Reggie Chaney looks to drive during a game against Vanderbilt on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas forward Reggie Chaney has entered the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to WholeHogSports on Monday.

Over 63 games at Arkansas, Chaney started nine games and averaged 4.8 points on 59.2 percent shooting and 3.4 rebounds. He shot a career-high 67.1 percent in 2019-20.

Chaney played 16.3 minutes per game as a freshman in former coach Mike Anderson’s final season with the Razorbacks, and he saw that figure drop to 14.6 as a sophomore. He began the season on an indefinite suspension due to a violation of team rules.

Chaney missed the Razorbacks’ first three games.

The Tulsa, Okla., native played at least 12 minutes in his first nine games played, but he saw the floor for a combined 18 minutes in Arkansas’ first three SEC games. At LSU on Jan. 8, Chaney was assessed a technical foul for frustratedly slapping the basketball into the crowd after a Razorbacks foul.

Beginning Jan. 15, Chaney played 14-plus minutes in 10 consecutive games and started in seven. He scored in double figures three times in that span, including a career-high 17 at Missouri, and recorded a pair of 11-rebound games.

Following that stretch, however, Chaney did not play more than eight minutes in Arkansas’ last six SEC games.

He saw the floor for 18 minutes in his final game with the Razorbacks, the 86-73 win over Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., on March 11. Chaney finished with four points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Chaney was a three-star prospect, according to 247 Sports, out of Findlay Prep in Nevada. He averaged 13.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game as a senior.

Chaney initially chose Arkansas over scholarship offers from TCU, Texas A&M, Wichita State and DePaul. He is the second Razorbacks player to enter the transfer portal since season's end, joining point guard Jalen Harris, who landed at Georgetown.

Per NCAA rules, Chaney will sit out the 2020-21 season unless he requests and is granted a waiver for immediate eligibility. He will have two seasons to play at his next school.
