The Recruiting Guy

DeWitt's Courtney is 6th in-state '22 prospect with offer from Hogs

DeWitt junior tight end Dax Courtney became the sixth in-state prospect in the class of 2022 to receive a scholarship offer from the Razorbacks on Tuesday.

Courtney, 6-6, 210 pounds, was told of the offer during a conference call with Arkansas coach Sam Pittman, tight ends coach Jon Cooper and linebackers coach Rion Rhoades on Tuesday morning.

“You grow up your whole life in Arkansas hoping for that Razorback offer and to finally get it it’s exciting definitely,” Courtney said.

The coaches focused on being him an in-state recruit.

“They gave their in-state recruiting spiel,” Courtney said. “Saying you grow up in Arkansas wanting to play for the Razorbacks, which is true. That’s what they were pushing.”

Courtney comes from a football family. His father is DeWitt coach Mark Courtney and his older brother, Seth, was the starting quarterback last season.

Dax Courtney caught 36 passes for 623 yards and 7 touchdowns as a sophomore. He also had three rushing attempts for 16 yards.

Courtney also has offers from TCU, Kansas State, Memphis, Tulane and others. He plans to take his time on his college decision.

“I’m young," he said. "I still have two years left to play, but obviously it’s a great honor to have an offer from the Razorbacks that will stay with me throughout my high school career. But I would like to play the next two years as good as I can in high school. You just have to keep a level head.”

Courtney, who has an approximate 3.8 GPA, was impressed with Pittman.

“The sincerity of Coach Pittman was crazy,” Courtney said. “He’s from Arkansas, he’s been to Arkansas before and he knows how the kids are around here. It was like he already knew me without ever speaking to me before.”

In addition to Courtney, the Razorbacks have offered Maumelle offensive lineman Andrew Chamblee; Joe T. Robinson offensive lineman E'Marion Harris; Little Rock Parkview running back James Jointer; Clarendon athlete Quincey McAdoo; and Fayetteville receiver Isaiah Sategna in the state's 2022 class.
