UA prepares for refunds to canceled events

Arkansas fans call the Hogs on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.

— The University of Arkansas says it will soon offer information about refunds for tickets purchased to its games between March 13-April 15.

That period covers the time between when the SEC suspended all of its athletic competitions and the target date the league has given itself to reassess whether play can continue in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

Events on the UA campus during the shutdown were to include 15 baseball games — including weekend series against three ranked SEC teams, Alabama, Florida and Texas A&M — 11 softball games, a combined 10 days of men’s and women’s tennis matches, a track meet and a gymnastics meet.

Additional dates could be canceled, pending the SEC’s final determination on whether competition can resume.

“We have some information in place where we will provide refunds through everything scheduled through April 15 at this point in time,” UA Athletics Director Hunter Yurachek said Friday, “and then we’ll address after April 15, and that can be in the way of a full refund or either credits to future ticket purchases.”

For more information on refunds, fans are encouraged to call the Razorback ticket office at (479) 575-5151, or email raztk@uark.edu.

The SEC and ACC are the only power conferences to remain in a suspended state. The Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 have canceled all competition until the fall semester, as have most other conferences.

The Big 12 and Big Ten cancellations affect Arkansas’ scheduled baseball games against Oklahoma at the minor-league Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, as well as at Michigan State.

The Oklahoma City Dodgers asked fans to call (405) 218-1000 for refund information about the Oklahoma game that was scheduled for Tuesday. Michigan State’s athletics website does not have information about refunds for the Razorbacks’ games there that were scheduled for April 21-22.

The SEC is offering full refunds to those who purchased tickets to its canceled men’s basketball tournament through the league office, an SEC school or through the league’s ticket exchange. The SEC said refunds would be made by March 31.
