Arkansas won its first series at South Carolina with one of the best offensive performances in program history.

The Razorbacks hit six home runs, including two grand slams, in a 30-7 win over the Gamecocks in the series finale. Arkansas scored 50 runs in the three games.

Brent Caldwell hit a grand slam during a six-run first inning for the Razorbacks. Jeremy Jackson added a second grand slam and Ryan Lundquist hit a pair of home runs.

Jackson, who had five hits, finished with 6 RBI, as did Caldwell.

"I've never seen an offensive display like that," said Lundquist, who was named SEC player of the week after an 11-for-16 series at South Carolina. "I mean, 30 runs in a nine-inning ballgame is pretty impressive."

Scott Heather, now the head coach at Bucknell, was the winning pitcher after allowing two runs in seven innings.

Arkansas had never won a game at South Carolina prior to 1997. The Razorbacks were swept by the Gamecocks in their first series there in 1993.

Twenty-three years later, the 30 runs are still a record for Arkansas in an SEC game.

The 1997 team also broke single-season school records for batting average (.341), runs (589), home runs (80), RBI (525) and slugging percentage (.561). The home runs record has since been broken, but the others still stand.
