Arkansas takes step toward division title with win at Ole Miss

Arkansas soccer players take part in a postgame hog call following a 2-0 victory over LSU on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas bounced back from its first soccer loss of the season Sunday with a 2-1 victory at Ole Miss.

The No. 7 Razorbacks (5-1) moved within one victory of clinching at least a share of the SEC West title for the second consecutive season. Arkansas is scheduled to host No. 14 Auburn on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Razorbacks are tied with South Carolina for the best record in the SEC with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The Gamecocks won in Fayetteville last week.

Arkansas' Kayla McKeon scored her third goal of the season in the 37th minute at Ole Miss, and Nayeli Perez added her first goal of the season less than eight minutes later to put the Razorbacks ahead 2-0 at halftime.

McKeon, a fifth-year senior, has scored three goals in Arkansas' past four games. Her 25th career goal Sunday tied Brittany Burns (1995-98) for sixth on the Razorbacks' all-time goals list.

Ole Miss (2-4) scored its only goal in the 80th minute on an unassisted shot by Mo O'Connor. Taylor Beitz played the entire game in goal for Arkansas, which had rotated goalkeepers in its first five games. Beitz had three saves.

The Razorbacks defeated Ole Miss for the fourth consecutive meeting and extended its unbeaten streak against SEC West competition to 15 games. Arkansas' last SEC West loss was at Ole Miss two years ago.
