Boyd named to preseason All-SEC 2nd team by league's coaches

Arkansas running back Rakeem Boyd goes through a drill in practice Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas running back Rakeem Boyd has been tabbed preseason All-SEC by the league’s coaches, it was announced Thursday.

The Razorbacks’ leading rusher each of the last two seasons, Boyd landed on the second team. Alabama's Najee Harris and Mississippi State's Kylin Hill were first-team selections.

Boyd, the first Arkansas running back to earn preseason coaches All-SEC recognition since Alex Collins, was the lone Razorback among the 90 players making up the first, second and third teams.

Since joining Arkansas in 2018, Boyd has totaled 1,867 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He ran for a career-high 1,133 yards and eight scores last fall.

This preseason, Boyd has also been named to watch lists for the Maxwell, Earl Campbell and Doak Walker Awards.

Georgia, the Razorbacks’ opponent in Week 1, has 10 players on the All-SEC teams. Defensive lineman Jordan Davis and safety Richard LeCounte were first-team selections.

Seven Bulldogs players, including center Trey Hill and receiver George Pickens, were named to the second team.
