FAYETTEVILLE — A contracted football series between Arkansas and Utah has been amended to delay the Utes’ return trip to Fayetteville by one season.

The Razorbacks and Utes have agreed to play at Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Sept. 15, 2029, according to a copy of the amended contract. The game in Fayetteville was originally scheduled to be played in 2028.

Arkansas is still scheduled to play at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Sept. 12, 2026, in the first game of the two-game series. The Razorbacks and Utes have never played each other in football.

Utah, a member of the Pac-12, has had seven consecutive winning seasons. Last year the Utes extended the contract for their long-time coach Kyle Whittingham through the 2027 season.

An Arkansas news release did not specify the reason for the change in series dates, but it opens the 2028 season as one during which the Razorbacks must schedule an opponent that will satisfy a scheduling mandate from the SEC. The league requires each team to play a team from a different Power 5 conference each season. The SEC counts Division I independents Notre Dame, BYU and Army as Power 5 substitutes.

Arkansas has 10 games scheduled through the 2033 season against nonconference Power 5 opponents or substitutes, including two games against BYU and one game against Notre Dame.

The contracted series between Arkansas and Notre Dame will likely be amended because the Razorbacks were unable to play the Fighting Irish in the first scheduled game last year. Notre Dame is scheduled to play at Arkansas in 2025.
