Game postponement gives Hogs time to heal

Arkansas guard Desi Sills grabs his shoulder after taking a hard fall during a game against Mississippi State on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — The postponement of Arkansas’ home game against Texas A&M on Saturday could be advantageous for the Razorbacks.

Following a stretch in which Arkansas played three games — at home against Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and at Oklahoma State — in six days, the Razorbacks now have a week to rest and heal a number of injuries to key pieces ahead of a scheduled Feb. 9 trip to Kentucky.

Junior guard Desi Sills suffered a left shoulder injury in the first half of Wednesday’s game against the Bulldogs and did not play in the second half. Sills was cleared to return if needed, Arkansas coach Eric Musselman said.

Freshman forward Jaylin Williams did not play in the second half of the loss to the Cowboys and logged only nine minutes Wednesday as he deals with a bone bruise to his right knee.

Musselman said after the 61-45 win over Mississippi State that freshman guard Moses Moody was a game-time decision against the Bulldogs with an ankle injury. Arkansas’ leading scorer rolled the ankle during a blockout drill in practice, Musselman added, and did not take part in the team’s workout Monday.

Justin Smith, who underwent right ankle surgery on Jan. 1 and returned to the lineup Jan. 16 at Alabama, also had his foot and ankle examined during halftime on Wednesday, Musselman said.

“We are a banged up team,” Musselman told SEC Network on Wednesday. “We are banged up, but we’ve got a little bit of time to regroup now.”
