Razorback men, women No. 1 in first national indoor rankings

— Arkansas' men and women are No. 1 in the first indoor track and field rankings for the 2021 season.

Both teams have already won a pair of home meets this year — the Arkansas Invitational over mostly in-state competition and the Woo Pig Classic over a field that included Texas, LSU, Southern Cal, Kentucky, Oklahoma State and Missouri.

In the women's rankings, Texas is ranked fourth, USC sixth, LSU seventh and Kentucky ninth this week. LSU is ranked third and USC is 10th in the men's rankings.

Rankings by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association are computed based on national scores. Arkansas' women have 21 top-10 marks nationally, and the men have top-10 marks in 10 events.

Amon Kemboi has the nation's best time of 3:58.26 in the men's mile, and Ryan Brown has the nation's fifth-best triple jump distance of 52-4 1/2.

The Razorback women have the top three times in the mile and 3,000 meters. Krissy Gear (4:38.22) has the nation's top mile time, followed by Logan Morris (4:39.01) and Lauren Gregory (4:39.05).

Gregory has the nation's top time (9:01.44) in the 3,000 meters, followed by Morris (9:09.45) and Katie Izzo (9:12.62).

Arkansas' female 1,600-meter relay team of Paris Peoples, Tiana Wilson, Morgan Burks-Magee and Rosey Effiong has the world's best time of 3:32:18.

The Razorback women are No. 1 in the indoor poll for the 12th time in the past three seasons. Arkansas is the reigning NCAA indoor champion, based on 2019 results.

Arkansas' men are No. 1 in the indoor rankings for the first time since 2016. The men are looking for their first NCAA indoor championship since 2013.

The Razorbacks' teams won't leave their home facility, Randal Tyson Track Center, for their seven scheduled meets this season. The SEC Championships are scheduled for Feb. 25-27 in Fayetteville, and the NCAA Championships are scheduled there for March 11-13.
