Guyer's Paige pushes toward Arkansas offer

Denton (Texas) Guyer defensive end/linebacker Vincent Paige (6-1, 212) is committed to North Texas, but has been getting more heralded attention lately and is exploring his options.

One of those was working out for Arkansas coaches Sunday inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium at a camp that had over 100 prospects.

“They definitely like me, like what I can bring to the table, and we are just going to go from here and build a relationship,” Allen said. “They are really picky about who they want to take, so if they offer you they really want you.”

Paige played at Guyer as a freshman and sophomore, Fort Worth Nolan Catholic as a junior and will be back at Guyer as a senior.

He chose North Texas over Baylor, Cincinnati, Houston, Syracuse, Louisiana Tech, Kansas, Buffalo and UConn on Jan. 25.

He is now receiving attention from Arkansas, Wisconsin, SMU and other programs.

“I am currently committed to North Texas, but I am looking at some more offers and just kind of taking it slow,” Paige said.

Paige had 72 tackles, 44 solo, 5 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries for Nolan Catholic as a junior and led his team to the TAPPS Division I state title game.

He was happy with his effort Sunday.

“I think I performed well,” Paige said. “There are some things I need to improve on, but I think I did well.”

He has been focused on a few facets of his game.

“Definitely my change of direction and being more physical, not second guessing myself and giving all to my teammates,” Paige said.

He will spend the rest of his summer with his teammates at Guyer, which reached the 6A Division II state title game when he was there as a sophomore.

“Probably just getting back to Denton, work with my teammates and just getting better for the season,” Paige said.
