FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas pitcher Kevin Kopps added two more national awards to his growing collection this week.

Kopps was named the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings national pitcher of the year Tuesday, one day after he was named national player of the year by D1Baseball.

The awards have come fast and frequent for Kopps since the Razorbacks' season ended with a loss to North Carolina State in the NCAA super regional round earlier this month. He has won three national player of the year awards — including the 34th Dick Howser Trophy — and three pitcher of the year awards from organizations that differentiated between the best position player and best pitcher.

In addition to the D1Baseball honor and the Howser Trophy that is presented by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Kopps was named national player of the year by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

ABCA/Rawlings joined Perfect Game and the College Baseball Foundation in awarding Kopps pitcher of the year. Kopps also earned the NCBWA's 16th Stopper of the Year Award as the nation's best relief pitcher and SEC coaches voted him conference pitcher of the year.

Kopps remains in contention for college baseball's most recognizable award, the Golden Spikes, which will be presented in July. Kopps is one of three finalists for the 43rd Golden Spikes Award, along with Vanderbilt pitchers Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter.

Kopps went 12-1 with 11 saves and led college baseball in ERA (0.90) and WHIP (0.76) this season.

Opposing hitters had a .162 batting average against Kopps and he struck out 131 and walked 18 in 89 2/3 innings.

Thirty-two of Kopps’ 33 appearances came out of the bullpen and he was the first relief pitcher to win the Howser Trophy. He could become the first reliever to win the Golden Spikes since Wichita State’s Darren Dreifort in 1993.
