NOTABLE Cincinnati defeated No. 14 Illinois 71-51 in the opening game of the Hall of Fame Classic. The Bearcats trailed by 15 in the first half….Mike Saunders Jr. scored 20 points off the bench to lead the Bearcats on Monday. Saunders is averaging 10.2 points per game this season….Cincinnati coach Wes Miller spent the previous 10 seasons at North Carolina-Greensboro, where he coached his team to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Miller was a member of North Carolina’s national championship team in 2004-05….Arkansas improved to 8-6 all-time in Kansas City with Monday’s victory over Kansas State. Prior to this week, the Razorbacks had not played in Kansas City since the 1995 NCAA Midwest Regional when they beat Memphis 96-91 in overtime and Virginia 68-61 in Kemper Arena to advance to the Final Four….Among Cincinnati’s five wins to open the season was a 73-68 home victory over Georgia on Nov. 13. The Bearcats’ five wins over Evansville, Georgia, Alabama A&M, Presbyterian and Illinois have been by an average of 20.8 points per game….Arkansas and Cincinnati played three consecutive seasons in the 1990s. The Razorbacks defeated the Bearcats 84-75 in the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu in December 1994. The following season, Cincinnati won 82-67 in Fayetteville in a game that was attended by President Bill Clinton. The Bearcats won 92-57 in the most recent game between the teams in January 1997 in Cincinnati….The first meeting between Arkansas and Cincinnati was played on March 3, 1958, in Lawrence, Kan. The Bearcats won 97-62 in the NCAA Tournament, led by Oscar Robertson’s 56 points.
