ESPN scores big numbers for game, pregame coverage of Arkansas-Georgia

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ 37-0 loss at Georgia last Saturday was the most-watched college football game on cable this season.

According to numbers posted Tuesday at ShowBuzzDaily.com, ESPN averaged nearly 3.85 million viewers for the game, which edged the network’s Auburn-LSU broadcast later that night in viewership. An average of more than 3.79 million watched Auburn rally for a 24-19 victory in the late game.

Prior to last weekend, Arkansas' 40-21 victory over Texas on Sept. 11 was the most-watched game on cable this year with an average audience of nearly 3.4 million on ESPN.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” also scored its biggest audience of the season last Saturday. An average of nearly 2.1 million tuned into the pregame show, which was on location in Athens, Ga., and preceded the network's telecast of the Razorbacks' game against the Bulldogs, which kicked off at 11 a.m. Central.

Arkansas-Georgia was college football’s fourth-most-watched game of last weekend. CBS won the day with its telecast of Alabama’s home victory over Ole Miss, which averaged nearly 4.8 million viewers.

Fox’s early game between Michigan and Wisconsin averaged more than 4.3 million viewers, and ABC’s primetime game involving Penn State and Indiana averaged just under 4 million. Cincinnati’s win at Notre Dame was watched by an average of just more than 3.8 million on NBC.
