Razorbacks to play 2 preseason exhibitions

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman speaks to his team Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, during practice in the university practice facility in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas announced Thursday it will play a pair of men’s basketball exhibition games later this month.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to host East Central (Okla.) University at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24 at Bud Walton Arena. An opponent and game time have not been finalized for the second exhibition, but it will be played Saturday, Oct. 30 — the off day for the Razorbacks’ football team.

There are a couple of Arkansas connections in the first preseason game. Transfer shooting guard Jaxson Robinson, who joined the Razorbacks from Texas A&M, is from Ada, Okla., where East Central is located.

Max Penderey, who served as a graduate assistant on Eric Musselman’s staff in his first season at Arkansas, is the program’s head coach. He replaced former Razorbacks assistant coach Chris Crutchfield, who coached East Central for one season before he accepted an assistant position at Oregon.

The Razorbacks have a 3-0 all-time record against East Central, but they have not played since December 1942.

Arkansas will play its annual Red-White game at Barnhill Arena on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Razorbacks are scheduled to open the 2021-22 season against Mercer on Nov. 9.
