Ticket sales spike for Arkansas women

FAYETTEVILLE — Season-ticket sales are up by 46% for Arkansas’ women’s basketball games this year.

As of Wednesday, the Razorbacks had sold 2,006 season tickets for the 2021-22 season, which is a program record. There were 1,375 season tickets sold last year.

Arkansas has set a record for season-ticket sales the past three seasons under coach Mike Neighbors.

An average of 2,213 tickets — including single-game tickets — were sold last season when crowd sizes were limited due to covid-19. The Razorbacks played in the two games with the highest attendance last season, home games against UConn and Alabama with sellout crowds of 4,400.

Arkansas averaged 3,247 tickets sold in 2019-20.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to play 17 home games at Bud Walton Arena this season, beginning with the Nov. 10 season opener against Tarleton State. There is also an exhibition game scheduled against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Nov. 5.

In SEC play, Arkansas is scheduled to host conference heavyweights South Carolina, Mississippi State and Tennessee.

The Razorbacks were 19-9 overall and 10-5 in SEC play last year when they qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in six years. As a No. 3 seed, Arkansas was upset by Wright State in the first round of the tournament following an 18-day layoff.

Arkansas received votes, but was unranked in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 that was released Tuesday. The Razorbacks were picked to finish six in the SEC by a panel of media voters.

Arkansas must replace leading scorer Chelsea Dungee this season. Dungee was selected fifth overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2021 WNBA Draft, and the Razorbacks also lost guard Destiny Slocum to the Las Vegas Aces 14th overall.

Senior guard Amber Ramirez opted to return to Arkansas after averaging 13.5 points last season and is the team’s leading returning scorer. The Razorbacks also added three in-state McDonald’s All-Americans during the offseason — freshmen Jersey Wolfenbarger of Fort Smith Northside and Maryam Dauda of Bentonville, and sophomore Sasha Goforth, a Fayetteville native who transferred from Oregon State.
