Trey Knox questionable for UAPB game

Arkansas tight end Trey Knox goes to the ground after making a catch during a game against Ole Miss on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, in Oxford, Miss.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas coach Sam Pittman provided a few health and availability updates Wednesday ahead of the Razorbacks’ game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Little Rock.

Trey Knox, who has played a dual tight end/wide receiver role in recent weeks, is considered questionable for Saturday. The 6-5 junior is battling an ankle injury sustained in Arkansas’ 52-51 loss at Ole Miss on Oct. 9.

“We’re still looking at Trey Knox to see…if that ankle will be healed up enough,” Pittman said.

Against the Rebels, Knox turned in his best game since his freshman season. He finished with 5 catches for 37 yards and his first touchdown since Arkansas’ season finale against Missouri in 2019.

He had 7 catches for 70 yards as a sophomore.

Pittman added that defensive lineman Markell Utsey and right tackle Dalton Wagner will not play against the Golden Lions. Utsey, a Little Rock native who played high school football at Parkview, will not travel with the team.

Wagner, who had surgery to repair a dislocated finger prior to the Auburn game, and Utsey are expected to return for Arkansas’ home game against Mississippi State on Nov. 6.

Defensive end Tre Williams is also healthy this week, Pittman said.

The Razorbacks could also be adding a player to their secondary this weekend in Penn State transfer Trent Gordon. The defensive back has battled an ankle injury this fall, but Pittman is hopeful he will see the field against UAPB.

“He’s practiced this week,” Pittman added. “I think that ankle’s finally feeling better for him. I certainly hope (he will play) some because we recruited him for a reason.

“We need him healthy and I think he’ll help us once his health allows him to.”
