Clay Moser leaving Arkansas staff

Arkansas basketball assistant coach Clay Moser is leaving the Razorbacks' staff after three seasons, he announced Wednesday in a post to his Twitter account.

"It takes a village and everyone deserves a genuine shout out for their commitment, talent, sacrifice and role they played in all that has been accomplished,” Moser wrote in part. “Thanks also to the community for embracing my family as that is what is most important to me. Thank you to my immediate family whose sacrifice is always the hardest to repay.

“My mother always used to say ‘when you are invited into someone else’s home, leave it better than you found it.’ She’d be proud.”

Anthony Ruta, the program’s director of basketball operations the last three seasons, was promoted to assistant coach shortly after Moser's announcement.

Arkansas was the sixth team on which he and head coach Eric Musselman worked together. The two long-time friends worked on the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors staffs in the NBA, along with the Reno Bighorns and the D-fenders of what is now the NBA G League.

They also worked on together on the international level when Musselman was the head coach of the Dominican Republic and Moser was his first assistant.

They led the Dominican Republic to a silver medal in Centro Basket Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tourney and qualified for the Pan Am Games and the FIBA Americas-Pre Olympic Qualifier in 2010.

Moser and Musselman first met in their early 20s when Musselman was the head coach of the Rapid City Thrillers and Moser was an assistant for Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Continental Basketball Association.

Moser served in several capacities for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2011-19. He worked as a scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kings, Orlando Magic and Warriors.

Moser was the vice president of business development for the New Orleans Hornets and was a Summer League assistant for the San Antonio Spurs.
