FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas defensive lineman Jalen Williams is transferring closer to home.

A former 3-star junior college prospect at Jones College in Mississippi, Williams announced in a post to his Twitter account on Friday that he has committed to Southern Mississippi. He reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal Friday morning.

Williams, a native of Tylertown, Miss., which is roughly one hour from his new school, did not record any statistics in his lone season with the Razorbacks.

Williams injured his back last spring and was limited in summer workouts. He participated in preseason practices, but Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said Aug. 14 that the lineman did not look like the same player the Razorbacks signed.

Rated the No. 1 junior college defensive tackle in the country by ESPN, Williams chose Arkansas over scholarship offers from Missouri, Auburn, Baylor, Duke and other programs.
