Arkansas' Gibson nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

Arkansas infielder Danielle Gibson (41) runs to first, Saturday, May 21, 2022 during the fourth inning of the second game of the Fayetteville Regional softball tournament at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

Former Arkansas softball slugger Danielle Gibson is the Razorbacks’ nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year, the NCAA announced Thursday.

The award was established in 1991 and honors academic and athletic achievements, as well as community service efforts of graduating female athletes from all three divisions.

After a conference-wide vote, the Southeastern Conference nominee will be announced in August. Gibson, a California native, transferred to Arkansas after one season at Arizona State and became one of the most prodigious players in program history.

She is the first Razorback to be a two-time NFCA All-American, and she owns school records for single-season batting average (.445), hits (81), RBI (70) and total bases (155). Off the field, Gibson was selected to SEC Academic Honor Roll twice (2020, 2021) and made the SEC Community Service Team in 2022.

Gibson was one of 13 players selected in last year’s college draft hosted by Athletes Unlimited.

AU and ESPN recently reached a multi-year agreement that will result in more than 160 live games being aired exclusively on ESPN platforms throughout the next two years, according to the World Baseball Softball Confederation.
