Dylan Leach announces intent to transfer

Arkansas catcher Dylan Leach is congratulated Tuesday, April 5, 2022, after hitting a two-run triple during the second inning of play against Central Arkansas at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Two days after Arkansas’ baseball season ended at the College World Series, a Razorback has announced plans to transfer from the program.

Dylan Leach, a sophomore back-up catcher from Carthage, Texas, stated his intent to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Saturday in a post to his Twitter account.

“This year has brought such blessing and thankfulness,” Leach wrote. “I have been given many opportunities that countless baseball players dream of, and am grateful God has blessed me with the gift of having the ability to play at such a level. I would like to express my gratitude to coaches, my teammates, family, and Razorback fans for such support of my growth as a Razorback.

“I would like to announce that I am entering into the transfer portal and will be continuing my growth.”

Leach in 2022 appeared in 24 games for the Razorbacks and started 16. He finished with a .224 batting average, 4 home runs and 16 RBI in 58 at-bats.

The highlight of his season came against Central Arkansas on April 5, when he went 5 for 5 with 5 RBI and hit for the cycle after entering the game 1 for 22 at the plate.

Leach had two more multi-hit games the remainder of the season, against Arkansas Pine-Bluff on April 12 and Arkansas State on April 20.

His final start was against Alabama on May 21, and he played in only one game during the team’s run in the NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks were 13-1 in games in which Leach started at catcher.
