Toney a game-time decision at Tennessee

Arkansas forward Au'Diese Toney (5) dunks the ball during a game against West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, in Fayetteville.

A regular in No. 14 Arkansas’ starting lineup is a game-time decision Saturday against Tennessee.

Razorbacks coach Eric Musselman said 6-6 wing Au’Diese Toney will be limited against the No. 13 Volunteers, if he plays at all. Toney rolled an ankle late in Arkansas’ 77-76 victory over LSU on Wednesday.

“That (impacts) us defensively drastically, because he challenges perimeter players’ shots so much,” Musselman said on Arkansas’ pre-game radio show. “One thing we do know going into the game is he’s not going to play substantial minutes, that’s for sure.

"It changes who we are defensively, and it changes who we are defensive rebounding at that off-guard spot, as well.”

Toney is coming off an 18-point game against the Tigers. It was his most points in a game since the Jan. 4 loss to Vanderbilt.

Musselman said sophomore guard Davonte Davis is likely to start if Toney cannot play, and guard Chris Lykes and forward Kamani Johnson will be counted on for minutes.

“The one thing we don’t want to do is … we have a second part of the season coming,” Musselman said. “We did earn the double bye (in the SEC Tournament), and we don’t want to further injure somebody like Au’Diese.”

A transfer from Pittsburgh, Toney is averaging 10.4 points on 52% shooting and 5.3 rebounds per game this season. He finished with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks in Arkansas' 58-48 win over Tennessee on Feb. 19.

Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. on ESPN.
