Razorbacks drop SEC soccer opener

Mississippi State freshman Maggie Wadsworth scored two goals and the Bulldogs defeated the 14th-ranked Razorbacks 2-0 in the SEC soccer opener for both teams Friday.

Wadsworth, the reigning SEC freshman of the week, scored goals in the 26th and 81st minutes. Wadsworth had the only shots on goal for the Bulldogs (7-0-2).

Arkansas (5-2-1) had a six-game unbeaten streak end. The Razorbacks had not lost since their season opener at Saint Louis.

Colby Hale, Arkansas’ 11th-year coach, took responsibility for the loss and said the Bulldogs outworked his team.

“The SEC is a different animal and we weren’t prepared,” Hale said. “We will learn from this and get better as this group of women always does.”

Arkansas is scheduled to host Auburn next Thursday at 6 p.m. It will be the Razorbacks’ first home game since Sept. 4.
