Arkansas-Arkansas State game canceled

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ baseball game against Arkansas State on Tuesday has been canceled due to weather.

There are no plans to make up the game.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely Tuesday afternoon and evening in Fayetteville. The game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. at Baum-Walker Stadium.

“It may be sunny and 70 degrees at 6 tomorrow, but I doubt it,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. “[Canceling the game] is probably the right thing to do.”

Van Horn said the rest will be beneficial for both teams, which are scheduled to play conference series beginning Thursday.

"I think as far as rest, this is probably a good week for us because we used a lot of pitchers and had to use a couple of them a couple times," Van Horn said of a series against Alabama. "It changes the way we lift weights today. Today will be more of a down day, and they need it."

This is Arkansas’ first canceled game of the season. It leaves the Razorbacks with 54 scheduled regular-season games — two below the maximum number of games allowed by the NCAA.

"The only reason we would add games would be to play some guys that need to play," Van Horn said. "So we look at our schedule, we probably couldn’t add a game until May.

"Unless something just fell into place with somebody that could come over in May and play a doubleheader on a day, I don’t see it right now."

Arkansas (23-5, 6-3 SEC) is scheduled to play again Thursday in the first game of a three-game series at Ole Miss.
