Josenberger out indefinitely with hamstring injury

Arkansas center fielder Tavian Josenberger rounds the bases after hitting a two-run home run Tuesday, March 28, 2023, to score shortstop John Bolton during the third inning of the Razorbacks’ win over Omaha at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Arkansas center fielder Tavian Josenberger will miss an indefinite amount of playing time after he injured his left hamstring last Saturday at Georgia.

Josenberger did not travel for the Razorbacks’ baseball game at Missouri State on Tuesday and will not be available when Arkansas hosts Texas A&M for three games beginning Thursday.

“He won’t be available for us for a while; we don’t know how long yet,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said on the Razorback Sports Network before the game. “It looks like it’s a Grade 1 injury, so we’ll just play it by ear. He’s getting treatment. He was in a lot of pain there for a day and a half. He’s doing a lot better now. Hopefully we can get him back in a couple of weeks.”

Catcher Parker Rowland made the trip to Springfield on Tuesday. He did not start, but entered the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning. It was his first time to play since injuring his back last week.

Speaking on the “Big C and Bigger T Podcast" on Monday, Rowland said he is feeling better.

“I kind of tweaked my lower back last week during a lift,” Rowland said. “I had some tightness and some soreness going on throughout the weekend…but [Monday] I was full practice, caught a couple of bullpens, swung the bat, so I’ll be ready to go again this weekend.”

Josenberger, Rowland and left fielder Jared Wegner were regular starters who were unavailable by the end of the Razorbacks’ series loss at Georgia. Wegner, who has a fractured left thumb, is not expected to play again until sometime in May.

Arkansas second baseman Peyton Stovall was also left off the trip to Springfield. Van Horn said Stovall is battling arm soreness.

"We’re just taking care of him," Van Horn said.

Arkansas’ starting lineup at Missouri State included Brady Slavens in left field, Ben McLaughlin at first base, Peyton Holt at second base, Jace Bohrofen in center field, Kendall Diggs in right field and Hudson Polk at catcher. Jayson Jones was the starting designated hitter.

“We’ve got guys playing out of position all over the field,” Van Horn said. “We’re just fighting it and we’ve got to find a way to survive the next couple of weeks.”
