Razorbacks slide to No. 15 in AP poll

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ men’s basketball team has dropped in The Associated Press Top 25 poll for a second consecutive week.

The Razorbacks, who went 1-1 in a pair of ranked matchups last week, are No. 15 in the latest poll that was released Monday. Arkansas was No. 13 in the Jan. 2 rankings.

The Razorbacks (12-3, 1-2 SEC) began the week with a 74-68 home victory over then-No. 20 Missouri in which they rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit. Arkansas capped the week with a 72-59 loss at then-No. 22 Auburn.

Wichita State transfer Ricky Council led Arkansas with 25 points against Missouri, and freshman guard Anthony Black led all scorers with 23 points on Saturday.

Arkansas is set to host Alabama on Wednesday in its third consecutive top-25 matchup, and travel to Vanderbilt on Saturday. Tipoff against the Crimson Tide is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN2.

Alabama, ranked No. 4 this week, is 13-2 overall and 3-0 in SEC play after home wins over Ole Miss and Kentucky last week. The Crimson Tide defeated the Wildcats 78-52 on Saturday behind 19 points from guard Brandon Miller, who on Monday was named SEC freshman of the week.

Alabama has won four straight games since a Dec. 17 loss to Gonzaga in Birmingham, Ala.

Other teams of note in this week’s AP poll are Tennessee (5), Texas (10), Missouri (20), Auburn (21) and San Diego State (23).

Baylor, which is scheduled to host Arkansas in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 28, received the most voting points (93) among teams outside the top 25. Marquette, the No. 25 team this week, received 131.
