Razorbacks await NCAA call

Arkansas men's golf coach Brad McMakin is shown Friday, May 24, 2019, on the 16th fairway during the first day of play in the Men's NCAA Golf Championships at Blessings Golf Club in Johnson.

FAYETTEVILLE — The men’s golf team at the University of Arkansas will learn its postseason destination today when NCAA regional pairings are announced.

The NCAA Selection Show will begin with a preview starting at 11:30 a.m. on the Golf Channel, with the 81-team field being revealed between noon and 1 p.m.

No. 35 Arkansas assured itself of being eligible for the field by finishing 10th at the SEC Championships at St. Simon’s Island, Ga., on April 21. That left the Razorbacks with a 60-59-2 record to push them above the .500 threshold required for eligibility.

Coach Brad McMakin’s Razorbacks have qualified for 14 consecutive NCAA Regionals, including a runner-up showing to Texas A&M at the NCAA Championships in 2009. Arkansas has competed in 28 NCAA regionals since their inception in 1989.

The Golf Channel projected Arkansas as the No. 8 seed in the Salem (S.C.) Regional hosted by Clemson and UAPB as the No. 14 seed for the Norman (Okla.) Regional hosted by Oklahoma.

The regionals are scheduled for May 15-17, with the top five teams from each of the six regionals advancing to the NCAA Championships slated for May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
