SPRINGDALE — Former Arkansas baseball coach Dave Jorn, who served two stints as the Razorbacks' pitching coach and helped the program to six College World Series appearances, was the guest speaker at the Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club luncheon on Wednesday.

Jorn served as the pitching coach under former coach Norm DeBriyn (1983-88) and Dave Van Horn (2003-16). In his 20 seasons as the pitching coach, the team made 18 postseason appearances.

Today Jorn is a part-time scout for the Tampa Bay Rays and lives in Bentonville. In 2022, Jorn published a book “More Than Baseball” that chronicles his career as a player and coach. He was a pitcher for the Arkansas Travelers.

Also on Wednesday, state basketball champions Bergman and Farmington were honored for their outstanding seasons as the Prep Rally Program of the Week and the Prep Rally Player of the Week, respectively.

The Bergman Lady Panthers went 42-3 and won the Class 3A state championship. It was the program's second state title under coach James Halitzka. Bergman knocked off defending state champion Salem in the title game. The Lady Panthers were honored as the Program of the Week.

Farmington senior guard Reese Shirey was selected as the Player of the Week after leading the Lady Cardinals to the Class 4A state title. Shirey, who was named the Most Valuable Player in the state finals win against Morrilton, guided her team to a 37-1 record. Farmington's only loss was to Duncanville, Texas, a team that won the 6A state title. The Lady Cardinals ended the season winning their final 36 games.

The next Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club luncheon will be April 24 with Arkansas women's national track champion coach Chris Johnson as the guest speaker.
