Shannon well thought of in Florida

Arkansas linebackers coach Randy Shannon is well thought of in his home state.

When the name Randy Shannon is mentioned to high school coaches and recruits in Florida, compliments usually follow.

Shannon, who joined Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema's staff on Dec. 30, won three national titles as a player and a coach at Miami.

Miami Northwestern Coach Stephen Field, who coached Hog freshman safety DeAndre Coley, started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Miami under Shannon

"He’s been a very positive figure in my life," Field said. "I really look up to him as a person."

Shannon, who was the lead recruiter of Coley and offensive lineman Denver Kirkland, remains close with Field.

"Coach Shannon is a really good friend of mine," Field said. "He’s a type of individual that will always have my respect. He will always have loyalty from me in anything he does because he’s just extraordinary type of person."
