After making a late night call to Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema, receiver Jared Cornelius decided to flip from TCU back to Arkansas.
Cornelius, 6-1, 190, 4.48 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Shreveport (La.) Evangel said he spoke to Bielema about 11:30 Tuesday night about the Hog offense and his opportunities to get touches.
The conversation along with a talk to Bolivar, Mo. quarterback Rafe Peavey, a Hog pledge, convinced him to be a Razorback.
He had been committed to the Hogs since August, but surprised Arkansas coaches and fans when he switched to TCU after an official visit to Fort Worth last week. He signed an Institutional Financial Aid Agreement with Arkansas Wednesday morning.
“He was a sleep, but he still sounded excited,” said Cornelius of Bielema. “I’m happy for that and I’m happy to be an Arkansas Razorback.”
He and Peavey had developed a good relationship over the months and had plans to be roommates before the flip to TCU.
“I text him last night (Tuesday) and said I think I’m going to stay with Arkansas,” Cornelius said. “I don’t want to lose this relationship. I do believe in Rafe. I think once Rafe gets down there were going to throw the ball a lot more and open up the offense up.”
Cornelius, who had 82 receptions for 1,189 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, said he’s done and won’t change his mind.
“That’s it,” he said.
His teammate, defensive back Santos Ramirez, who officially visited Fayetteville over the weekend, was happy to hear the news.
“I talked to him after his official and he was telling me he loved and was telling me I needed to go ahead and commit back,” said Cornelius, who plans to report to Fayetteville on Jan. 9. “He’s pretty excited that I’m back.”
