Texas back hoping for Arkansas offer

Joel Thomas coached a 1,000-yard rusher in each of his four seasons with the Huskies.

Running back Denzell Evans will be making an official visit to Arkansas and is expecting to see the Hogs offer a scholarship once he's on-campus.

Evans, 5-11, 210, 4.5 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Bellaire, Texas high school is looking to pull the trigger and make a commitment to the Hogs if the offer comes his way.

" It's a great conference and there's a lot of history with the program," said Evans, who's committed to Houston. "Just watching Darren McFadden and Felix Jones and knowing the history of the program. It's the only big school in Arkansas and being in the SEC, it would mean a lot to play for them.

As a junior, Evans rushed 135 times for 997 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had 260 carries for 1.147 yards and 16 touchdowns this past season. He and his father hosted Coach Bret Bielema and running backs coach Joel Thomas for an in-home visit on Wednesday.

"They really like my versatility," Evans said. "I can hit in between the hole but also bounce it outside. They said I have great hands."

Whatever Evans decides he knows his father will be supportive.

"He's backing me 100 percent,"Evans said. "Whatever happens he has my back."
