Thursday morning recruiting tidbits
Terrell Newby is one of Arkansas' running back prospects.
LOS ANGELES As was tweeted earlier, Terrell Newby of Chatsworth, Calif. and his parents were kind of enough to allow this reporter to come into their home and do sit down interviews with Terrell and his mother, Lorraine.
Terrell said he just got off the phone with Arkansas running back coach Joel Thomas as I rang the door bell. He said Thomas is planning to make in-home on Friday. They're still working on the exact time. UCLA is also supposed to do an in-home that day.
Terrell talked about how he instantly became interested in Arkansas after the hiring of Thomas. The relationship between the two is very strong. He expects to set up an official visit to Arkansas very soon. He also plans to officially visit UCLA and Oregon.
Thomas, who has officially visited Nebraska, told him that offensive coordinator Jim Chaney went nuts after seeing his video.
Terrell said Thomas being young and his ability to relate to young men his age is what makes prospects gravitate toward him.
Lorraine said she and her husband do a lot of research on the schools and look at the history of each college and graduation rates.
She said Thomas is a very nice and personable and was very informative and detailed about Washington when he was with the Huskies.
Arkansas quarterback commitment Austin Allen of Fayetteville said he's had a good week of practice at the Semper Fi Al American bowl and is very impressed with the talent on the East squad. He and RB Alex Collins have hit it off and have gotten to know one another. Allen said he's done some recruiting of Collins but most of their discussions are non-recruiting.
I plan to talk to Collins and several others Thursday afternoon.
