Powell signs to play in Ukraine

NWA Media/MICHAEL WOODS --02/02/2013-- Arkansas forward Marshawn Powell drives to the hoop during the second half of Saturday afternoon's game against the Tennessee Volunteers at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

— Former Arkansas forward Marshawn Powell will begin his professional career in Ukraine after signing with Ferro-ZNTU, Eurobasket News reported Saturday.

The 23-year-old entered his name for the NBA draft following his redshirt junior season, but went undrafted. Powell averaged 14.5 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game last season with the Razorbacks before foregoing his fifth and final year of eligibility.

He also posted a career high 3-point percentage, shooting 34.6 percent beyond the arc during the season.

Powell, along with teammate BJ Young, was a member of the All-Southeastern Conference second team last season. Young is playing with another former Arkansas guard, Patrick Beverley and Junction City, Ark. native (former Oklahoma State guard) James Anderson on the Houston Rockets' summer league team.
