Cross earns semifinal spot in USA Championships

Arkansas sprinter/hurdler Caleb Cross advanced to the 400-meter hurdles semifinals on Thursday.

— With a 10th place finish on the first day of competition at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Caleb Cross has advanced to the semifinals in the 400-meter hurdles.

Cross will run in the semifinal Friday at 7:04 p.m. He finished fourth in the third heat Thursday to qualify for the semifinals. The Newport, Ark. native completed his senior season at Arkansas, where he won an Southeastern Conference title in the 400-meter hurdles and was a member of the NCAA Indoor Championship 4x400-meter relay team.

In addition to Cross, Arkansas field event competitors Andrew Irwin (pole vault) and Ken LeGassey (junior high jump) will compete Friday.

The 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships is the qualifying event for the 2013 IAAF World Championships, which will take place August 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.
