Johnson working for visit from Ohio lineman

Arkansas has made a strong push to recruit Ohio under Coach Bret Bielema, and the Hogs are taking advantage of the connections of cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson, shown, and graduate assistant Nick Caley, who are from Cincinnati and Canton, Ohio, respectively.

Recruits often cite relationships with coaches as key in trying picking a school. Offensive lineman Alex Dalton is one that puts a premium on relationships.

Dalton, 6-4, 280, 5.1 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Troy, Ohio is in the early stages of developing a relationship with Arkansas cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson. The vibe between the two will play a key role of any future possible visit to Fayetteville.

"There's definitely going to be an interest in a relationship between us before I travel down there," Dalton said. "It's not easy to travel around being in track in the spring. I throw shot and discus. It's hard to find free time."

Dalton reports having 22 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan State, Stanford and Kentucky.

"I'm going to find places to go to that's most important to me or where I feel like I have a relationship and schools that have the most interest in me." Dalton said.

Dalton, who has talked to offensive line coach Sam Pittman, communicates with Johnson on Facebook and through e-mails.

"We talk every once in a while over the phone." he said.

Strength isn't an issue for Dalton, who has a 390 pound bench press and 450 squat.

"I take pride in the weight room and working hard." Dalton said.

Dalton is aware of Coach Bret Bielema and Pittman's rich history of putting linemen into the NFL.

"I think it's important for me to go to a team that makes me the best player and achieve goals by winning championships." Dalton said.
