DALLAS — White Hall tight end and defensive end Daniel Sprinkle is the best in-state prospect without a scholarship offer, but that should change in the future.
Sprinkle participated in the Dallas Nike Camp on Saturday and looked every bit as good as any of the other top tight end prospects in attendance.
“I ran my routes real good and I caught all the balls and got down and dirty and dove for a few of them,” Sprinkle said. “I think I did real well overall.”
Sprinkle measured 6-foot 3-inches and weighed 222 pounds. He scored a 98.22 SPARQ rating with a 4.98 laser time in the 40 yard dash, 4.37 pro-shuttle, 32-inch vertical and 40 foot power ball toss. He believes his performance was on par with the other tight ends.
“I think I was right there with them,” Sprinkle said. “My mind set going in was I wanted to prove to people that I was up there with them.”
Louisiana-LaFayette is showing strong interest and appears close to offering while Arkansas, Memphis and others are showing interest. Razorback tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. is recruiting Sprinkle.
“Coach Lunney said he was coming down for my spring game,” said Sprinkle, whose brother Jeremy is a tight end for the Hogs. “He said they’re real interested in me at tight end. That was good to hear.”
Some schools could leery of recruiting Sprinkle because of his baseball talents. He’s been clocked at 92 miles per hour on the radar gun and is projected to throw around 95 as a senior.
“I think some schools might be worried,” Sprinkle said. “Some scouts are saying I probably wouldn’t even go to college, probably get a contract to MLB.”
Sprinkle recorded 24 receptions for 399 yards and 71 tackles, 6 sacks and 14 tackles for loss as a junior. He's hoping to see more interest from colleges.
“Baseball is looking real good right now,” Sprinkle said. “I’m getting a lot more interest from baseball, but I really wouldn’t know how much it would take for me to straight into the MLB.”
