Williams hoping for Hog offer while recruiting teammate
Arkansas coach Mike Anderson yells instruction sot his players Wednesday, March 13, 2014 during their SEC Tournament game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Arkansas is showing interest in the Dallas Prime Prep Academy duo of sophomore guard Deshawn Williams and sophomore shooting guard Terrance Ferguson.
Williams, 6-1, 163 pounds was in Little Rock over the weekend playing in Real Deal in the Rock for the Arkansas Hawks. He played at Maumelle last year before moving to Dallas in the fall.
The sharp shooting Williams, who’s hoping to see a Hog offer come his way, is working to recruit Ferguson, the No. 8 prospect in the 2016 class by ESPN, to Fayetteville.
“We’ve been talking about it a lot,” said Williams, who reports offers from Connecticut and Colorado. “How they run and mostly get fast break points. He just wants to jump out of the gym. We’ve been talking about it. I’m trying to get him to come there.”
Williams has been communicating with Coach Mike Anderson and associate head coach Melvin Watkins.
“They say keep staying focused and they’re going to keep their eye on me,” Williams said.
He attended Arkansas’ 89-78 victory over SMU on Nov. 18.
“I tried to make it for the Kentucky game, but I think we had to go to Massachusetts the next day,” said Williams, who has also visited SMU.
Williams, who’s drawing interest from Mississippi State, SMU and Tulsa, is confident the Razorbacks will extend an offer.
“I know it’s coming, I hope it’s coming,” Williams said. “It would mean a lot, considering I’ve always wanted to be a Razorback.”
Williams has been caught off guard by the attention from colleges. His stock went up after a 27-point game against Findley Prep last December in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.
,” I knew I would eventually get recruited, but I didn’t expect it to be like this,” he said.
