Hogs impress Louisiana DE

Highly regarded junior defensive end Briston Guidry came away impressed with Arkansas after visiting for the Hogs' spring game last year.

Arkansas signed cornerback Henre’ Toliver and linebacker Dwayne Eugene out of Metairie, (La.) Rummel in February and the Hogs are in the hunt for their teammate and sophomore defensive end Briston Guidry.

Guidry, 6-3, 270, 4.90 seconds in the 40 yard dash, has scholarship offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Tennessee. He traveled to Fayetteville with Toliver for the spring game and liked what he saw. Video highlights CLICK HERE

“It was a great atmosphere,” Guidry said. “They showed us the facilities. They have a nice weight room. Their indoor field is nice and they have a nice players lounge and the spring game was pretty nice too.”

Toliver and Eugene have told him good things about Arkansas.

“They say it’s family oriented, it’s a great atmosphere,” said Guidry, who has a 290 pound bench press and 375 squat. “I think they’re number one in their business program, that’s a plus.”

He was impressed with the defensive line play.

“The defensive line is looking nice,” Guidry said. “They’re a little thin, but overall their D-line looked pretty good.”

Guidry was named a Sophomore All American by Student Sports and to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State football team after recording 76 tackles and 20.5 tackles for loss.

“They want to give me up here for a camp,” Guidry said of Arkansas. “And they would like to see me as a Razorback.”

He spoke with defensive line coach Rory Segrest.

“He was telling me how he works with the D-line and he does a lot of rotation," Guidry said. "He was telling me I probably have good chance to get on the field if I come up here. He would like to have me up here for another time so I can see how he coaches.”

Guidry would welcome an offer from the Razorbacks.

“They would be in my top three,” he said. “My other two right now would be Mississippi State and Tennessee. I feel like if Arkansas offered me they could move up very quickly.”

Arkansas’ facilities was one of the highlights of the trip.

“From the facilities I’ve seen this year, they rank in the top,” Guidry said. “I’m not going to lie, that’s probably the best weight room I’ve seen so far. It’s huge.”
