Gosser bounces back to end summer

Arkansas catcher Alex Gosser heads to first after hitting the ball against Texas A&M during the fourth inning Friday, May 9, 2014, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

For the most part, the summer of 2014 is one Alex Gosser would probably like to forget. He struggled at the plate, batting only .203 and collecting just three extra-base hits.

However, if you dig deeper into his stats, the summer wasn’t a completely unproductive time for the rising sophomore catcher.

Gosser had discipline at the plate, drawing 22 walks and three hit-by-pitches while striking out only 13 times.

Also, he ended the summer on a high note, getting a hit in each of the Texas Marshals’ last five games and batting .364 over his last four games. That performance raised his batting average by 27 points.

During the stretch, he had two doubles. Gosser had just one double in his first 28 games.
