Williams ready to play

Linebacker Josh Williams spent time at Dodge City Community College prior to committing to Arkansas.

Linebacker Josh Williams, who reported to Arkansas in June, said linebackers coach Randy Shannon told him to be prepared to play this fall.

“He said “I’m not asking you to impress me, you’re from south Florida I know you can play”,” Williams said. “I know you have the speed just come in and work and come in and compete for a starting job.”

Williams, 6-2, 240, 4.43 seconds in he 40 yard dash, was one of two late additions to the 2014 class. He played last year at Dodge City Community College in Kansas and recorded a team high 85 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 recovered fumbles and a half of a sack in 10 games. He like other Razorbacks are looking forward to the opening game of the season.

“All that Heisman talk about the quarterback from Auburn, I’m just ready to play,” Williams said. “I’m ready to shut him down.”

Williams is well adjusted and mature for someone his age. His mother passed away when he was five years old and had an absentee father. His grandmother, Mildred Wilcher raised him and stressed academics and treating people right.

“So I had to really settle down,” Williams said. “I was like ‘Wow, don’t have my mom or my dad’.

She’s a great person. She raised me since six years old when no one else would do it.”

Once his playing days are over, Williams wants to stay active in the game.

“I want to be like scout,” he said.
