Sophomore LB shines at Arkansas camp

Sophomore LB Baron Browning impressed Coach Bret Bielema during a camp last summer and received an offer from the Hogs.

— Linebacker Baron Browning hasn’t played a down of his sophomore season and now has three scholarship offers after Arkansas extended one after his outstanding showing at the Hogs’ Elite Camp Thursday.

"I feel like it opens up some more doors for me," Browning said. "I came here trying to get one, but I didn’t really expect to get one. It's great.”

Browning, 6-2, 206 pounds of Kennedale, Texas, ran an impressive 4.62 seconds in the 40 yard dash, 4.32 in the pro shuttle and had a 9-85 broad jump. Video highlights CLICK HERE

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema and linebackers coach Randy Shannon liked what they saw.

"He was just saying that for my class and my age, my ability, explosiveness, and body frame was good for my age and very rare to see this early," Browning said of Bielema.

Browning was named the 2013 All-District 6-3A Team Defensive Newcomer of the Year last year.

Working with Shannon was one of the highlights of the day.

"I feel like my footwork was where it needs to be," said Browning, who plans to attend an Arkansas game in the fall. "I was on par with everything.

Baylor and Oklahoma State have also offered Browning.

Browning, who had a 10-4 broad jump, said the offer has the Razorbacks in good standing.

"It sits very high,” he said.
