Beeks added to short-season Red Sox roster

Arkansas starter Jalen Beeks delivers a pitch during the third inning against South Alabama Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas pitcher Jalen Beeks has agreed to terms with the Boston Red Sox.

Beeks was one of four players added Saturday to the active roster for the organization's short-season affiliate in Lowell, Mass. Beeks, a 12th round draft pick of the Red Sox, was introduced at the media day in Lowell earlier this month but had yet to sign.

The left-handed pitcher is the fourth Arkansas player to sign a professional contract this summer. Left-handed relief pitcher Michael Gunn, a 16th round pick of the Red Sox, is expected to join Beeks in Lowell prior to the July 18 signing deadline.
