ROGERS Stacy Lewis capped her annual homecoming with a birdie on the par 5 18th hole to win the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Sunday in Rogers.
The former Arkansas and current world No. 1 golfer entered the day four strokes behind Michelle Wie, who led the tournament at 10-under after two rounds.
She shot a 2-under on the front nine, her best performance on that half of the course this weekend, then followed with four birdies on the back nine.
Birdies on the 15th and 16th holes put Lewis into a tie for first place and after an approach shot put her in position to make a birdie on the 18th hole, she sunk to put to take the lead.
She watched from the clubhouse as Cristie Kerr's birdie attempt came up short, giving her the victory and the $300,000 first-place award.
Not including the first NW Arkansas Championship, which she was declared the winner of after weather cut the tournament short after one round, it was Lewis' first victory at the only LPGA event held in her alma mater's state.
Kerr, Lydia Ko and Angela Stanford finished in a three-way tie for second.
Wie struggled during the final round, shooting a 2-over 73 to finished the tournament tied for eighth at 8-under.
Current Razorback golfer Gaby Lopez made the cut by making a birdie on her next-to-last hole of the second round, which she finished early Sunday morning after weather suspended play Saturday.
Lopez made one birdie and one bogey to finish the day, and the tournament, at even par. She finished tied for 57th out of 143 participants.
