Hogs working to get into the mix with RB
ARLINGTON, Texas Arkansas isn’t high on running back Soso Jamabo’s list of top schools, but he hasn’t ruled the Hogs out.
Jamabo, 6-21/2, 206 of Plano West High School in Texas reports 22 scholarship offers and is favoring Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Ohio State.
“I’m still wide open as far as the process goes,” Jamabo said. "With Arkansas it’s a great school so you always have to keep them in mind. As far as making my decision it won’t be soon so there’s definitely time that Arkansas could come back into the race.”
The Hogs will have plenty of time to get back into the chase.
“The goal is before the end of the football season,” Jamabo said of making his college decision. “That’s the goal right now, before it was before the end of the summer, but I don’t think that will be realistic.”
Jamabo was one of the better athletes at the Nike Football SPARQ Combine at AT&T Stadium on Saturday. He had the 12th best rating with a 109.26. He recorded a 4.61 time in the 40 yard dash, 4.37 pro-shuttle, 34.8 vertical and 40 foot power ball toss.
“I came in with a strained achilles so I was expecting to get what I got,” said Jamabo, who's rated the No. 4 running back in the nation by ESPN. “I’m content, but not satisfied. I definitely wanted to get a little better and hopefully get an invite to The Opening so I can prove myself.”
The personable and engaging Jamabo has a 3.6 grade point average.
“At first I wanted to go into the medical field, but right now I’m thinking more about business,”he said.
Jamabo rushed 120 times for 1,077 yards, 10 touchdowns and had 15 receptions for 225 yards last year. Early playing time and a successful program tat can get him to the next level will impact his decision.
“Just the chance to go in early and get as much playing time as a possible,” Jamabo said. “Get a chance to impact on a school and make them a national championship contender. That’s the most important thing. A school that’s going to give me an opportunity to be the best I can be to take me to the next level which is the NFL. Every player wants to go to the NFL.”
