Greenwood's Morgan making strides
Sophomore Grant Morgan hopes to join his brother at Arkansas.
ARLINGTON, Texas Greenwood sophomore linebacker Grant Morgan made a big jump in this year’s Nike Football SPARQ Combine on Saturday with a score of 93.84. He had a rating of 73 during last year’s event as a freshman.
Morgan said slipping during the 40 yard dash led to a time of 4.95 seconds, but felt good about the three other events.
“I think I did well,” said Morgan, the younger brother of Hog receiver Drew Morgan. “I could’ve done better on other things. My shuttle was really good. Going lateral is awesome. I came out here and meet a lot of people. It was fun atmosphere competing in Dallas Cowboy Stadium.”
Morgan measured 5-10 and weighed in at 208 pounds. He recorded a 32 inch vertical, 4.22 pro-shuttle and 37.5 power ball toss. Video highlights CLICK HERE
“Next year, I want to make a big increase like this year,” Morgan said. “Maybe go up 20 and maybe get an invite to The Opening.”
He recorded 88 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions and a pass breakup last year. He also had 16 receptions for 202 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Morgan isn’t certain what schools are showing interest in his talents.
“Our coach won’t really talk about it,” Morgan said. “Because he wants us to focus on the season. Arkansas State and a couple of other colleges have sent letters. North Texas invited me to their camp last year. I expect a couple more after my junior year.”
He plans to attend some camps this summer.
“I’m going to Arkansas and Tulsa and I was planning to go to Auburn, but our spring game may cancel that,” Morgan said.
Receiving an offer from Arkansas and the chance to play with his brother would be huge.
“I would love to get an offer to play at Arkansas,” Morgan said. “I think Arkansas is on the right path for great things and I believe I could play a role on a successful SEC program. It would be a plus to even play on the same team as Drew.”
