Arkansas’ Gochenour in second in heptathlon

Arkansas’ Alex Gochenour is in second place after the first day of the heptathlon at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Lexington, Ky.

Gochenour has 3,379 points while Leigha Brown is in fifth place with 3,253 points.

Gochenour finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.83 seconds. She was fourth in the high jump clearing 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches, third in the shot put with a throw of 40-6 3/4 and fifth in the 200 dash in 25.42 seconds..

Brown finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in 14.12, cleared 5-4 1/4 in the high jump, threw the shot put 39-11 1/2 and ran the 200 dash in 25.43.

In the men’s decathlon, Nathanael Franks is in sixth place with 3,621 points. Franks finished 12th in the 100 dash (11.54), seventh in the long jump (22-1/4), second in the shot put (41-10 1/2), eighth in the high jump (6-1/2) and third in the 400 dash (49.95).

Brad Culp is in ninth place with 3,459 points. He was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.13), 12th in the long jump (21-2 3/4), 10th in the shot put (37-10), 11th in the high jump (5-11 1/4) and 13th in the 400 dash (52.07).

Lane Austell was 13th with 3,312 points. He finished 11th in the 100 dash (11.47), 11th in the long jump (21-2 3/4), ninth in the shot put (37-10 1/2), 14th in the high jump (5-6 1/2) and 10th in the 400 dash (51.49).
