Razorbacks Report

Marshall cleared for LSU

Arkansas running back Korliss Marshall returns a kick against LSU on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas tailback Korliss Marshall has been reinstated to the team and will return for the Razorbacks' next game against LSU on Nov. 15, Coach Bret Bielema said after Tuesday's practice.

Marshall, a sophomore from Osceola, missed the previous three games against Georgia, Alabama-Birmingham and Mississippi State while serving a university-imposed suspension for an undisclosed disciplinary reason.

"He's cleared to play and ready to play," Bielema said. "I don't know how much. A lot depends on how well he practices, but there are no limitations."

Marshall didn't practice during his suspension.

"I just kind of made the decision since he was going to be removed from the games that I was going to remove him from practice and let him know where he's at," Bielema said. "During that time away, he has done extremely well in the classroom.

"All the things that we have put in front of him and he needed to do, he did very, very well."

Bielema said Marshall is "on the last straw" as far as being able to stay on the team if he has any more disciplinary issues.

"Anything he does moving forward, he has got to make great decisions to make sure he has the ability to stay here and play the game that he loves to play at the University of Arkansas," Bielema said.

Marshall, who has rushed 24 times for 166 yards and has 9 kickoff returns for 271 yards this season, figures to get a lot of work in practice during the team's bye week with tailbacks Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins getting some rest.

"Korliss has got fresh legs," Bielema said. "He looked really nice out there [Tuesday]."

Injury update

Coach Bret Bielema said cornerback Henre Toliver, who has missed the past two games because of a back injury, practiced Tuesday and should be ready to play against LSU.

Cameron Jefferson, who has played offensive tackle and tight end, should be back for LSU, Bielema said, after missing the Mississippi State game because of a knee injury.

Linebacker Martrell Spaight, who sustained a deep thigh bruise against Mississippi State, will be ready for LSU, Bielema said. Receiver Anthony Antwine, who plays on special teams, was leg-whipped, Bielema said, but is fine.

Offensive tackle Dan Skipper and safety Rohan Gaines, who both left the Mississippi State game at times, were limited Tuesday, Bielema said, but will be ready for LSU.

Hi, bye!

Bret Bielema has raved over the team's bye week setup this season, which led to a bye after five games, then a bye after four more games before finishing with three consecutive games.

Now that their second bye week has come, the Razorbacks are embracing it.

"It comes at a great time," offensive tackle Brey Cook said. "We can kind of relax, catch our breath and work on some things. These mistakes we're making are correctable. It's all mental."

Not on Sleepy

Bret Bielema said that on Mississippi's State 69-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Fred Ross, the defensive play call got in late and thus there wasn't a particular player who busted the coverage.

Safety Davyon "Sleepy" McKinney had been identified as appearing to be the player who had the coverage bust in a Democrat-Gazette story that appeared in Sunday's paper.

Stop sign

Arkansas drove inside the Mississippi State 20-yard line on each of its last three possessions of Saturday's 17-10 loss to the No. 1 Bulldogs but did not score on any of those series.

With the score tied 10-10, the Razorbacks drove 61 yards to the Mississippi State 19 for the final snap of the third period. But a pass to Keon Hatcher lost a yard, then Hunter Henry committed a false start before two incomplete passes, which led to Adam McFain's missed 42-yard field goal.

Arkansas reached the Mississippi State 1 on its next series, with the Bulldogs ahead 17-10, before Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins were held out of the end zone on consecutive running plays.

The Razorbacks' final drive, fueled by two Henry receptions for a combined 60 yards, ended on a pass from the 16 on Will Redmond's interception of Brandon Allen's fade pass for Demetrius Wilson.

Turnover report

The Razorbacks won the turnover battle 3-1 against Mississippi State, marking Arkansas' first plus-2 margin of the season. The Razorbacks have won in turnover margin in three games, lost in two and tied in four.

Arkansas converted just one of its three takeaways into points, scoring on Alex Collins' 1-yard run at the end of a 25-yard drive following a muffed punt return by freshman Jamoral Graham.

The Razorbacks rank tied for No. 73 nationally with a minus-0.11 turnover margin per game, with 13 takeaways and 14 turnovers.
