The Recruiting Guy

Pittman's visit, enthusiasm seals deal for O-lineman's planned visit

Jalen Merrick has become one of the more highly recruited offensive line prospects in the nation with only two seasons under his belt.

As reported on Monday, highly recruited offensive lineman Jalen Merrick said in a text message he plans to officially visit Arkansas on Nov. 22 for the Ole Miss game.

Merrick, 6-5, 310 pounds, 5.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. has more than 20 offers from schools like Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Michigan State.

Razorback offensive line coach Sam Pittman attended his game on Friday. Merrick said seeing Pittman jumping up and down after pancaking a defender helped put the nail in the coffin in convincing him to visit the Hogs. The play is the first of his midseason highlight video. CLICK HERE

Merrick, who has a 405 pound bench press and a 31-inch vertical, played basketball until trying football for the first time last year. He has 3.8 grade point average and is leaning towards studying business or sports management.

He also plans to officially visit Wisconsin Nov. 15 and will most likely set one up to Alabama. He's expected to talk to Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin today.
